PARISH LIFE

ADULT YOUTH TEAM: Each year an attempt is continued to develop youth ministry for our young people. The adult teams help the Youth Ministry Coordinator in planning and detailing various activities for our youth.

DEVELOPMENT COMMITTEE: A CORE team of men and women who plan the major  “fun” raisers for the Parish. The goal is to provide safe, family oriented social events that deepen the sense of Parish Family as well as help raise additional revenue for parish/school expenses. The Development Team is also charged with improving our public relations within the community by spreading the word of our many ministries.

FINANCE COUNCIL:  This group helps the Pastor to develop a working budget for the Parish and help prioritize financial issues.  An accounting, banking and/or business background is desired.  Contact the Pastor, if interested.

PASTORAL COUNCIL:  This group of elected and chosen members seeks to promote a dialogue between the laity and their priests and to foster greater ability to reach clearer decisions regarding spiritual and organizational matters of the parish.  The group is advisory in nature but also takes on a variety of tasks in committee work.  Standing committees include:  School Activities, Religious Ed, Pastoral Care Ministry, and Stewardship Team.  Eligibility requirements include registered membership in the parish, Eucharistic participation and activity in parish life.  The council meets monthly except in the summer months.

STEWARDSHIP COMMITTEE:  This ministry helps to develop threefold aspect of time, talent and treasure to the parish community.  We are all called upon through our Baptism, to share our gifts with one another so that the vineyard may be rich in its harvest.

PARISH OUTREACH

CONSOLATION COMMITTEE:  This ministry strives to meet the needs of the bereaved.  Members are lay people who call and visit the family immediately following their loss.  They assist the family in organizing the funeral liturgy..

MOM’S GROUP: Mothers from the Parish with -school children meet weekly on Wednesday mornings after the 9AM Mass -11:AM  in the Hospitality Room. The mothers have some time for companionship with each other. The Mother’s Group was begun as a support group for

EUCHARISTIC MINISTERS TO THE SICK:  This group operates under the umbrella of the Eucharistic Ministers.  The Eucharist is made available to our homebound parishioners and to those in the hospital through the extraordinary efforts of this group of men and women.  These ministers are specially chosen but one can express a desire to be considered for this ministry.

HEALTH CARE MINISTRY: The Health Care Ministry is committed to the healing ministry of the church. Through health counseling, education, home visits and prayer, the Health Care ministry promotes the physical, emotional and spiritual well being of the St. Francis Xavier Parish community.  The Team is composed of healthcare professionals and other caregivers. The ministry offers education, blood pressure screening, referral services, health counseling, advocacy, home visits, transportation for shopping, hospital and physician visits.

HOSPITALITY TEAM:  The Hospitality Team provides refreshments to the parish following selected parish functions, whether they are liturgical or social.  Volunteers setup and wait tables. Even the homebound may be involved by baking at home and calling another team member to have the item picked up. The Team also organizes the outreach to the community after the 8AM  Sunday Mass from September through Palm Sunday. This is an excellent opportunity to meet and welcome new people and connect with old friends.

ST. VINCENT de PAUL SOCIETY:  The Society exists to serve people in need of food and clothing.  In extreme cases, such as unexpected unemployment, they may assist in helping to meet some costs for essential services such as utility bills for a brief period of time.  At Thanksgiving and Christmas time, they gather and distribute food baskets to needy families.  The Society may also offer spiritual help if needed.  The Saint Vincent de Paul Society operates under the jurisdiction of the parish as its own organization, with a formal affiliation through district, state and national councils.

WEEKEND LITURGIES

ALTAR SERVERS:  Altar servers minister for liturgical events in the parish.  Any student, boy or girl from the fourth grade and up are invited to join.  Experienced altar servers fully train newcomers.  Training involves weekly practice sessions for about four weeks.  Schedules are flexible to meet family needs.

EXTRA-ORDINARY MINISTERS OF THE EUCHARIST:  Extra-Ordinary Ministers of the Eucharist are lay people or religious who are selected by the pastor for this role of service.  These individuals attend an orientation session and are commissioned by the Diocese to serve in their parish.  Eucharistic Ministers distribute the Eucharist at Mass as assistants to the priest when other ordained ministers are not readily available.  In addition to serving at Mass, some of these ministers may bring the Eucharist to the sick or shut-ins.

LECTORS:  Parish readers help the presence of God to become alive through the proclamation of the Words.  With practice and training, readers will grow in prayerful appreciation of God’s Word.  The Word, thereby challenging others as they proclaim God’s Word, will challenge readers.  Readers assist at the weekend liturgies, holy days, funerals and other liturgical celebrations.

USHERS:  This ministry of hospitality includes greeting and welcoming as well as seating and taking up the collections.  Handicapped access by means of an elevator is also a responsibility of this group of volunteers.  Meetings are rarely held and any adult can join by checking “usher” on the involvement card.
